Accounts Assistant

Job description

Accounts Assistant – Job Spec
Location: Urlingford, Co. Kilkenny
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

About the Role
Our client, a well-established and growing transport business, is seeking an Accounts Assistant to join their finance team. This is a hands-on and varied role supporting the day-to-day running of the finance function across multiple locations.

The role is based at their Urlingford depot, with some initial travel to their Cork depot required to support the implementation of processes and ensure a smooth transition. Over time, this travel requirement is expected to reduce as systems and procedures become established. A full clean driving licence and access to your own transport are required, with mileage expenses covered.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Accounts Assistant with 1–3 years’ experience who is looking to broaden their skills across the full finance cycle within a busy and growing transport environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Processing supplier invoices across multiple depots, including matching invoices with purchase orders and delivery dockets.
  • Reconciling supplier statements and resolving supplier queries in a timely manner.
  • Preparing supplier payment runs for approval.
  • Raising customer invoices and maintaining accurate sales ledger records.
  • Issuing customer statements and supporting credit control activities.
  • Monitoring aged debtors and following up outstanding balances.
  • Posting daily bank transactions and completing bank reconciliations across multiple accounts.
  • Reconciling fuel card and credit card statements.
  • Assisting with VAT returns, Diesel Rebate submissions and other Revenue-related requirements.
  • Supporting payroll administration, including the collation of driver hours and timesheets.
  • Assisting with month-end processes including accruals, prepayments, journals and preparation of supporting schedules.
  • Supporting year-end audit preparation and general finance administration.
  • Providing finance support to depot managers and the wider finance team as required.

Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have:
  • 1–3 years’ experience in an Accounts Assistant or similar finance role.
  • Experience across purchase ledger, sales ledger and bank reconciliations.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage deadlines and prioritise workloads.
  • Good Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables and lookups.
  • Experience using an accounting system such as Sage, Xero, SAP, Surf Accounts or similar.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently with suppliers, customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and support finance operations across multiple locations when required.
  • A full clean driving licence and access to own transport (essential).

Desirable:
  • Accounting Technician qualification or currently working towards qualification.
  • Experience within transport, logistics or a multi-site environment.
  • Exposure to payroll processing.
  • Experience with Diesel Rebate and Revenue Online Service (ROS).
