(Maternity Cover)

About the Role
Our client is a prestigious 4-star castle hotel in Co. Sligo, and we are seeking an experienced Accountant or Senior Accounts Assistant to join the team on a 9-month fixed term maternity cover contract.

This is a hands-on role offering responsibility across all aspects of the finance function, supporting the day-to-day financial operations of a busy hotel while working closely with senior management.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, producing timely management reports, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, and supporting the financial performance of the business throughout the contract period.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of the accounting function, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, General Ledger, and financial reporting.
  • Oversee daily finance operations and ensure accurate recording and reconciliation of all financial transactions.
  • Manage hotel cash handling procedures, reconcile cash and credit card receipts, investigate discrepancies, and report findings to management.
  • Prepare weekly revenue and payroll reports.
  • Produce monthly management accounts and complete balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns within required deadlines.
  • Assist with year-end accounts and liaise with external auditors.
  • Maintain and reconcile the hotel's Property Management System ledgers, including guest, city, and deposit ledgers, working closely with the Front Office team to resolve discrepancies.
  • Process weekly payroll, including new employee setup, time and attendance administration, statutory payroll submissions, and payment processing.
  • Manage the accounts receivable function, including customer account setup, invoicing, statement generation, and credit control.
  • Manage accounts payable, including invoice processing, supplier reconciliations, and payment runs.
  • Perform regular bank reconciliations and maintain accurate banking records.
  • Ensure accurate integration between Point of Sale, Property Management, and accounting systems.
  • Reconcile gift card sales and redemptions.
  • Review and process employee expense claims.
  • Support the General Manager with financial reporting and any additional finance-related duties as required.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Permission to work in the Republic of Ireland.
  • A minimum of three years' experience in a similar accounting role.
  • Previous payroll experience (desirable).
  • Experience using Sage 50 Accounts, Sage Micropay, and hotel Property Management Systems such as Guestline (advantageous).
  • Knowledge of VAT and PAYE compliance.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
