Job description
Our client, based in London, is a building services and environmental engineering consultancy dedicated to developing innovative and sustainable engineering solutions. As a result of their continued success, they are expanding their management team to focus on growth in London and beyond and are looking to hire an experienced Associate (Electrical).
As an Associate (Electrical), you will play a pivotal role in driving electrical engineering best practice, overseeing technical delivery, and managing key client relationships. You will lead a dynamic team, ensuring excellence in electrical design and project delivery.
The ideal candidate will be a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with deep expertise across all aspects of electrical building services, including general lighting, emergency lighting, LV systems, ELV systems, life safety, utilities, data, fire alarm, security systems, PV, small power, access control, CCTV, substations, switch room design, etc.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
As an Associate (Electrical), you will play a pivotal role in driving electrical engineering best practice, overseeing technical delivery, and managing key client relationships. You will lead a dynamic team, ensuring excellence in electrical design and project delivery.
The ideal candidate will be a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with deep expertise across all aspects of electrical building services, including general lighting, emergency lighting, LV systems, ELV systems, life safety, utilities, data, fire alarm, security systems, PV, small power, access control, CCTV, substations, switch room design, etc.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide expert technical and project oversight of the Electrical Engineering team, ensuring consistent high-quality project delivery.
- Lead the production of all technical output within the Electrical Engineering team, such as load analyses, distribution strategies, spatial coordination, lighting assessments, utility liaison, technical coordination with design team members, cable sizing, equipment scheduling, specification writing, client presentations, etc.
- Oversee the development of staff and team, including mentoring, training, recruiting, expanding the team, etc.
- Introduce new skills, certifications and services to the company, where appropriate and relevant.
- Perform site visits and technical surveys of existing electrical installations and recommend potential solutions to improve systems.
- Take a lead role on projects, including client relationship management, project management, DTM attendance, and reporting project status to management.
- Maintain strong relationships with existing clients, ensuring a high level of service and technical excellence.
- Support business development initiatives, including bidding, fee proposals, and identifying new service opportunities.
- Contribute to marketing efforts, providing content for the company website, social media, and thought leadership articles.
- Represent the company at industry events, technical working groups, and professional panels.
- Assist in expanding the firm's service offerings, certifications, and sector coverage.
- Assisting in project interviews, with the intention of increasing project bid win/success rate.
- Present technical findings and electrical strategies to clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary design teams.
- Conduct workshops and formal presentations to clients, helping bridge the gap between technical and non-technical audiences.
- Engage in industry-wide discussions, representing the company at conferences, forums, and expert panels.
- Educated to degree level with a minimum of 8 years’ industry experience in a similar field/industry.
- Significant experience in Electrical Design within an MEP design consultancy setting.
- Understanding of various software required to undertake the role, such as Amtech, Dialux, etc.
- Strong knowledge of UK electrical standards, British Standards, regulations, best practices, and CIBSE codes.
- Proven ability to produce electrical engineering submissions across various sectors at all RIBA Stages.
- Ability to manage and oversee multiple projects, ensuring high-quality delivery.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) desirable
- High-level knowledge of other aspects of the building services industry, such as mechanical engineering, energy analysis, sustainability, certifications, etc. desirable
- Please note this is a full-time, permanent role, on-site in London. Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week with flexitime.
