Commercial Manager
Job description
Role Summary
The Commercial Manager is responsible for overseeing the commercial performance and contractual governance of company projects and client engagements. This role ensures strong financial outcomes, effective contract administration, and proactive commercial risk management across all active workstreams. The position works closely with project delivery, finance, procurement, and leadership teams to support profitable and well?controlled project execution.
Primary Responsibilities
• Take ownership of commercial and contractual management across active projects
• Review and negotiate customer and supplier contracts and amendments
• Establish and maintain commercial controls and governance procedures
• Monitor project financial performance, margins, and forecasts
• Lead cost control and commercial reporting processes
• Manage change orders, variations, and compensation events
• Support dispute avoidance and commercial resolution where required
• Ensure contractual obligations and entitlements are properly administered
• Contribute to commercial strategy and continuous improvement
Financial & Commercial Control
• Track project costs, revenue, and margin performance
• Review valuations, payment applications, and final accounts
• Work with finance to support budgeting and cash flow planning
• Validate pricing models and cost assumptions
• Provide commercial performance reports to senior management
Procurement & Supplier Management
• Support commercial aspects of procurement activities
• Negotiate commercial terms with subcontractors and suppliers
• Review supplier agreements and risk exposure
• Promote cost efficiency and value for money across supply chain decisions
Risk & Compliance
• Identify commercial and contractual risks
• Maintain a commercial risk register
• Develop mitigation strategies and escalation paths
• Ensure documentation and audit trails are maintained
• Support internal compliance and governance requirements
Business Development Support
• Provide commercial input into tenders and proposals
• Review client contract terms during bid stage
• Assist with pricing and commercial assumptions
• Advise leadership on commercial exposure in new opportunities
Experience & Qualifications
• Degree in Commercial Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Finance, or related field
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a commercial or contract management role within hazardous waste recovery and sustainable processing industry
• Strong working knowledge of standard contract forms
• Demonstrated experience managing project commercial performance
